I have deliberately left out movies which were adapted from musicals and plays, with the exception of ‘Oliver!’ which though adapted from a musical is ultimately based on Charles Dicken’s novel Oliver Twist. You may also find it interesting to read the list of books which won the Pulitzer prize and were also adapted into movies which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
